LOCAL FOUNDATION
for leadership
Derek Ennis’s journey reflects the same perseverance that defines District 4 — an honest day’s work for an honest wage.
During his time at West Liberty University, Derek faced a defining moment. His father passed away from complications related to Chemical Pneumonia. In that moment, he knew what he had to do — step up for his family and for his future.
He did exactly that.
Derek was graduated from West Liberty University with a degree in Business Management after serving two consecutive years as Student Body President.
He then enrolled in Marshall University’s Master’s program in Safety Management while working full time. Derek worked 12-hour midnight shifts, seven days a week, as a construction Safety Inspector on multiple contracts at Marathon Ashland Refinery — all while carrying a demanding graduate course load.
He graduated with a 3.9 GPA, paid off his student loans, and saved enough for a down payment on his family’s homestead in Ohio County.
For Derek, earning degrees wasn’t just about education. It was about honoring his father’s legacy, supporting his family, and proving that leadership is built on grit, responsibility, and resilience.
Business Vision
While serving as Student Body President at West Liberty University, Derek sat on the Board of Governors and recognized a growing need for student housing.
He didn’t just talk about the problem — he prepared for it.
In 2007, Derek launched Ennis Properties, LLC, built on careful planning and disciplined saving. Nearly two decades later, he remains the sole owner of a student-focused, family-friendly apartment community nestled in the rolling hills near the university.
No shortcuts.
No get-rich schemes.
No leaving the area for something easier.
Derek stayed - and worked harder than the rest.
While building a successful career in mining with Consol Energy, he grew his company the old-fashioned way: after work, on weekends, and through consistent effort.
That’s what this vote is about.
Hard work. Accountability. Showing up.
And that’s exactly how Derek will serve you as your Delegate.
ECONOMIC VISION
A robust economy is the foundation of our collective success. Derek will foster a climate where small businesses flourish, families can plan for the future with absolute certainty, and the dignity of hard work is respected through disciplined fiscal responsibility and strategic local investment.
